The story of this episode tells the story before and after the events that took place in Hotline Miami, focusing more on the behind-the-scenes scenes and the consequences for the main character of the previous version, Jacket. He is currently in custody on charges of murdering a Russian mafia boss and is awaiting trial. Now that the jacket is tied, the game is played by several other very different characters. In December 1991, a journalist named Ivan Reiter began researching and writing a book on murder and trying to find out more about the people behind it. In these searches, he finds a photo taken at the very moment when the Mafia boss was thrown from the balcony of his house (exactly the scene at the end of the first game). Another character is an old friend and companion of a jacket called Soldier. They worked together during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. But finally, with the weakening of the United States in 1985, a large number of Russian criminals occupied Miami. We first see the two preparing for battle outside a military barracks.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is an action, shooting, and somewhat strategic video game developed in collaboration with Dennaton and Abstraction and first released by Devolver Digital on Mafor Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux. Then, a few months later that year, fans saw it available for PlayStation consoles and Android mobile phones. A sequel to the first episode of Hotline Miami, which the independent studio released in 2012.
